The Roanoke Valley Transportation Planning Organization (RVTPO) will be holding a public hearing to receive public input on the FY19-24 Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP). The public hearing will be held at the RVTPO Policy Board’s 1:00 p.m. meeting on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission office (Top Floor Conference Room), 313 Luck Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.
Through this program, the RVTPO allocates approximately $5M annually to transportation projects of regional significance. These investments support many transportation goals including economic prosperity, accessibility, and safety for people and freight.
Since 2013, the RVTPO has allocated a total of $38.3M to improve regional transportation in many ways that include building new greenway paths and bridges ($18M), maintaining regional transit service via bus replacements ($14M), as well as building sidewalks, streetscapes, and a park & ride lot ($5M).
At its March 22, 2018 meeting, the TPO will consider nine new candidate projects for funding. A total of $18.2M in uncommitted funding is available for allocation over the FY19-24 six-year timeframe. Citizens are invited to share their input on where the RVTPO should invest the available funds to improve the Roanoke Valley’s transportation system. The current candidate projects are listed below.
