TPO Meetings – December 26, 2024
The Roanoke Valley Transportation Planning Organization (RVTPO) holds monthly meetings, generally on the fourth Thursday at 1:00 P.M., to discuss transportation planning and funding in the Roanoke region. Established in 1974, the RVTPO includes the Cities of Roanoke and Salem, the Town of Vinton, and parts of Bedford, Botetourt, Roanoke, and Montgomery Counties, covering an area of around 230,000 residents.
Key functions of the RVTPO involve creating the Roanoke Valley Transportation Plan (RVTP) for future transportation system development, managing the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for federal project funding, and overseeing various federal programs like the STBG, Carbon Reduction, and Transportation Alternatives Programs. The organization also implements the SMART SCALE system for project prioritization.
Public participation is encouraged in these meetings, with a designated time for public comments. Additionally, the Transportation Technical Committee (TTC) assists the RVTPO by providing technical advice on transportation matters.
