Public Participation

Community-Driven Transportation Planning

The Roanoke Valley Transportation Planning Organization (RVTPO) emphasizes the crucial role of public participation in transportation planning, aiming to ensure the process is transparent, inclusive, and reflective of diverse viewpoints. The RVTPO’s Public Participation Plan, first adopted in 2018 and updated in 2021, underscores the importance of meaningful engagement, where the public’s comments are not only heard but also influential in shaping transportation plans.

Key aspects of this participation include:

  1. Meaningful Engagement: Ensuring public comments are impactful and shape transportation plans, with accountability from the RVTPO.
  2. Educational Approach: Educating the public on the complexities of transportation planning for more informed and practical input.
  3. Diverse Perspectives: Seeking a wide range of views from various backgrounds to understand different transportation needs.
  4. Widespread Participation: Encouraging broad public engagement through convenient and appealing methods, to better understand regional priorities.
