Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission Board

Membership Roster

The Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission (RVARC) meetings address various regional issues and planning initiatives and foster collaboration among member governments. These meetings are an essential platform for discussion and decision-making on regional matters.

Meetings are open to the public and typically held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the third-floor conference room at the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission offices located at 313 Luck Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.

The Regional Commission Board has a written policy authorizing participation in RVARC Meetings through electronic communication means. This policy applies to all committees and subcommittees of the Regional Commission.

Roanoke Valley Transporation Planning Organization (RVTPO) Board

Membership Roster

The Roanoke Valley Transportation Planning Organization (RVTPO) holds monthly meetings to discuss transportation planning and funding in the Roanoke region.

Established in 1974, the RVTPO includes the Cities of Roanoke and Salem, the Town of Vinton, and parts of Bedford, Botetourt, Roanoke, and Montgomery Counties, covering an area of around 230,000 residents.

Public participation is encouraged in these meetings, with a designated time for public comments. Additionally, the Transportation Technical Committee (TTC) assists the RVTPO by providing technical advice on transportation matters.

RVTPO Policy Board meetings are open to the public and typically held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the third-floor conference room at the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission offices located at 313 Luck Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.

Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission Executive Committee

Executive Committee Members:

The Executive Committee is comprised of Commission officers, the immediate past Chair of the Commission, and an at-large member.  The Executive Committee regularly meets to review Commission business, finance, and programming, and make recommendations to the entire Commission board on matters of Commission operations.

Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission Legislative Committee

The Legislative Committee directs the development of the Regional Commission’s Annual Legislative Agenda, and helps promote that agenda to members of the General Assembly.

Transportation Technical Committee (TTC)

MEMBER ROSTER

The Transportation Technical Committee (TTC) holds monthly meetings to discuss and provide technical advice on transportation projects in the Roanoke Valley. Composed of transportation experts, the TTC plays a key role in shaping the region’s transportation planning. These meetings offer a platform for discussing ongoing and new transportation initiatives, ensuring that planning is informed by technical expertise.

Transportation Technical Committee (TTC) meetings are open to the public and typically held on the second Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in the third-floor conference room at the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission offices located at 313 Luck Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.

Roanoke Valley Collective Response Advisory Committee (CAC)

RVCR STAFF & CAC MEMBERS

The Collective Advisory Committee of the Roanoke Valley Collective Response (RVCR), a program of the RVARC, conducts meetings pivotal to steering community-driven initiatives and fostering cooperative efforts across the region. Key discussion points often include updates on community projects, brainstorming sessions for new initiatives, and reports on ongoing activities.

The Roanoke Valley Collective Response Advisory Committee (CAC) meetings are open to the public and typically held the third Wednesday of every month at 9:00 am in the third-floor conference room at the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission office located at 313 Luck Ave. SW, Roanoke, VA 24016. Regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Committee

MEMBER ROSTER 

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Committee is the principal facilitator for economic development planning and implementation, responsible for developing, updating, or replacing a strategy. Its purpose is to develop, maintain, pursue implementation of, and complete annual reporting requirements related to the Roanoke Valley – Alleghany Regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy document (CEDS).

Meetings are open to the public and held a minimum of four times a year typically on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 3:00 p.m. Meetings take place in various locations in the region or on the third-floor conference room at the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission office located at 313 Luck Ave. SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.

Regional Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee

The Regional Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee was established in 2008 The purpose of the committee is to facilitate regional collaboration with diverse stakeholders in planning bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in the Roanoke Valley. Learn more

Meetings are open to the public and typically held the third Wednesday of January, March, May, August and October at 3:00 pm in the third-floor conference room at the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission office located at 313 Luck Ave. SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.

 

Roanoke River Blueway Advisory Committee

The Roanoke River Blueway Advisory Committee was established in 2013 by RVARC to facilitate the planning, development, and marketing of the Roanoke River Blueway.

Membership includes representation from the localities of City of Roanoke, City of Salem, Town of Vinton and Roanoke County. The committee also includes representation from Clean Valley Council, Roanoke Valley Greenway Commission, Roanoke Outside, Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge, Friends of the Rivers of Virginia (FORVA) and Pathfinders for Greenways.
